- There is no free water. River water that is available at the Lake Shore Irrigation diversion dam is distributed according to shares owned in Lake Shore Irrigation (LSI). Strawberry and CUP (Central Utah Project) water is stored in Strawberry Resevior and is ordered into the system as it is used. Wastewater is water that drains off of someone else's field back into the ditch. If you are downstream you may benefit from wastewater. L.S.I. doesn't have any water that isn't owned by someone and LSI can't sell you extra water. CUP sometimes offers extra water.
 - Water for LSI shares comes from available river water at the Lake Shore Irrigation river dam point of diversion. The LSI board is responsible to estimate minutes per share depending on available water. The average is 5-10 minutes per share but it can be as low as 2 minutes or as high as 15-20 minutes per share. If you want to know the minutes for the current turn check this website.
 - Strawberry Water. 70 minutes per ac/ft of Strawberry water is available once per season when you request it to the water master (on the next turn).
 - CUP Water is leased water. 60 minutes per ac/ft is given once per season similar to Strawberry Water.
 - How much water do you need? This depends on the crop and the ground. With a stream of water (average 10 cubic feet per second) you should be able to average 2 acres per hour.
 - How to calculate how much water you have for a given turn? Take the current minutes per share multiply by your Lake Shore Irrigation shares. This gives total minutes you can irrigate without taking a charge against your Strawberry or CUP water (if you have any). Divide by 60 to get the time in hours. For example 14 shares at 5 minutes per share would allow 1 hour and 10 minutes of water.
 - Communicate. You should find out from the water master who your getting water from and who to pass it to. Once you know when your getting it, give an estimate to the next guy you will pass the water to and make sure you make contact when you turn the water no matter the time of day (or night).
 - Log your time. Text the water master your hours because he doesn't have time to talk on the phone unless its necessary.
 - Attend Annual Shareholder Meetings. You'll learn lots and appreciate the work that is done. You have the opportunity to nominate and vote for board members and be given financial and other reports. Meetings are generally held in February each year.
